What a face swap changes, and what it never touches
The garment, the hands and the light are already right. The job is a different face in that same frame.
Headloom's face swap replaces the face and rebuilds the hair to match, so the result never looks like a pasted-on mask. Clothes, pose, hands, background and light stay exactly as shot.
| Part of the photo | What the face swap does |
|---|---|
| Face | Replaced |
| Hair | Rebuilt to match the face |
| Skin | Matched at the neck |
| Garment | Untouched |
| Pose | Untouched |
| Hands | Untouched |
| Background | Untouched |
| Light | Untouched |
Skin is matched at the neck. A collar, a stripe and a sleeve fold stay in the file you uploaded.
How to face swap a photo in three steps
Two photos in, one photo out. There is no mask to paint and no prompt to write. Headloom works on still photos.
- 1. Photo to change. Upload the photo you want to change. The clothes, pose, hands, background and light in this photo are the parts that stay.
- 2. Face to use. Upload a photo of the face you have permission to use. Headloom replaces the face in the first photo and rebuilds the hair to match.
- 3. Download your result. Download the same shot. The face is new, the hair is rebuilt with it, and the rest of the photo is the one you uploaded.
You sign in with Google and confirm both people agreed before a live face swap. The pairs below are replays.
Face swap and head swap
Outside this site the two names usually mean different edits. This table is that split, not a second mode on the page.
| Part | Face swap, in general | Head swap |
|---|---|---|
| Hair | Usually left as photographed | Replaced so it belongs to the new person |
| Hairline | Stays with the head that was shot | Comes from the new head |
| Head shape | The face changes inside the same head | The shape of the head changes too |
| Choose it when | The hair in the photo is already right | The hair should change with the person |
In the usual meaning of the names, a face swap changes the face, and a head swap also replaces the hair, the hairline and the head shape.
Headloom does not follow that split today. Face swap here is the same whole-head edit as head swap. The hair is rebuilt with the face. There is no control that leaves the photographed hair where it was.
Why most free face swaps look fake
A cheap face swap pastes a cutout. The jaw has a hard edge, the skin tone seams, the collar warps, or the frame shifts so a stripe no longer sits where it was shot.
Headloom does not paste a cutout. The face is replaced and the hair is rebuilt to match. High resolution, with no pixel shift. The clothes, the hands and the background still line up with the photo you uploaded.
Examples
Five stored replays: a portrait, fashion, a creator character and a seller shot. Clothes, pose and light stay. Not a live swap.

Who a face swap is for
Retouchers use it when the frame is approved and only the person should change. Photographers use it for one person per photo. Headloom does not pick a face out of a group.
AI creators use it to keep one character consistent while the outfit stays a real photograph. Fashion and print-on-demand sellers use it to place one approved face across a set of clothes.
A catalogue that repeats one face across many garments is the job on AI model face swap for catalogues.
If you are still choosing a product, compare head swap tools by what each one actually leaves untouched: the garment, the pose and the light.
Where it has already been used
About 22,000 images generated on Headloom's Hugging Face Space.
Louis Philippe uses Headloom for its shirt catalogue, with one approved face across every shirt. Open the mint shirt, the light blue shirt and the cream linen shirt on the live product pages.
Tips for a realistic face swap
- Use a clear, front-facing face, with both eyes visible.
- Keep the angle and the light close to the photo you are changing.
- Leave sunglasses off, and keep hands away from the face.
- Use one person in the photo to change, and one person in the face photo.
A hat brim, a hand across the mouth, or a steep angle is the usual reason to try a simpler face photo.
Consent and privacy
Approved identities only. Headloom is not for dropping someone into a photo they never agreed to.
Both people have to have agreed: the person in the photo to change, and the person whose face you upload. A live swap stays off until you confirm that, and that everyone shown is an adult.
Public figures and celebrities are not allowed. Do not upload a famous face, a film still, or anyone who has not agreed to this use.
Every photo is safety-checked. Photos are used for your swap only, deleted within 24 hours, and never used for training. Download the result if you want to keep it.
What a likeness must not be used for is on the responsible use page. Who runs Headloom is on the About page.

Does the faceswap change the hair?

Will it change the clothes, pose or background?
No. Clothes, pose, hands, background and light stay exactly as shot.
What quality are the results?
High resolution, with no pixel shift.
How long does a face swap take?
About a minute, including a safety check.
Can I face swap a video or GIF?
Not yet. Headloom works on photos.
Can I swap faces with a celebrity?
No. Only use faces of people who have agreed to it. Public figures are refused.
What happens to my photos?
Used for your swap only, deleted within 24 hours, never used for training.
What's the difference between face swap and head swap?
In general, a face swap changes the face, and a head swap also replaces the hair, hairline and head shape. On Headloom today, face swap is the same whole-head edit as head swap: the hair is rebuilt with the face. See the head swap page.
